International Trade

Weak domestic demand translating to a slowing State economy means South Australia’s future economic growth is increasingly dependent on international trade. Business SA has been a strong public proponent of the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) and advocating a bi-partisan approach to ensuring the deal passed Parliament in 2015 to maximise available tariff cuts.

The next substantial trade opportunity for South Australia will come through execution of the Trans Pacific Partnership and Business SA will be working in association with the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) to ensure this occurs as soon as practicable.

Business SA is also mindful that getting a small business export ready is big challenge and will continue to advocate for a dedicated Export Ready Program to bridge the services gap between establishing a business and transitioning it into a position where it is ready to export.
