What is microlearning?

In today’s fast-paced world people need to constantly up-skill but have little time to learn, which is why many organisations are embracing microlearning. Applying microlearning principles in the workplace via bite-sized courses results in greater staff engagement and knowledge retention.

Microlearning is a holistic approach for skill-based learning and education. Content deals with relatively small learning units and involves short-term-focused strategies to aid understanding. Applying microlearning principles in the workplace has become quite popular of late as results indicate greater staff engagement and knowledge retention. Many organisations are turning to microlearning as an alternative to more traditional types of education delivery as staff can learn anytime, anywhere.

Some examples of microlearning include simple videos, infographics, gamification apps, short lessons and quizzes and online short courses. Microlearning principles also work particularly well when applied to compliance-based training, an important part of all workplace education.
