Ensuring staff are adequately trained is critical to South East Business SA member
NF McDonnell & Sons. In fact their logo –
Continual improvement is how we do business – points to their ongoing commitment to safety.
NF McDonnell & Sons, which operates a saw mill in Mount Gambier, is one of the regional city’s large employers. With saw milling equipment, manual handling and other heavy machinery, workplace safety is paramount.
WHS & RTW Coordinator, Richard McLoughlin, said NF McDonnell & Sons ensured their staff were up to date with Work Health and Safety training, along with offering refresher courses and compliance training.
"Training helps us stay informed and up to date with current legislative requirements, as well as making sure all of our workers are armed with the best tools to help them succeed in everything they do," Richard said.
NF McDonnell & Sons' management team recently completed Business SA's
Bullying, Discrimination & Harassment training to recognise bullying behaviour, as well as how to handle it if it happens.
"We have a zero tolerance for bullying and harassment on our site as we acknowledge the severe effect it can have on a person’s physical and mental health, so this was a very important session for us."
Management in turn filtered their learnings through to the production workers to ensure the company as a whole would benefit from this training.
NF McDonnell & Sons have also invested in
Health and Safety Representative training for nominated workers, providing them with the confidence and knowledge needed to carry out their role effectively.
